Good wineries to visit near St. Emilion?

We plan to be in St. Emilion in late October and the tourism web site lists a lot of probably smaller vineyards that are open to the public. Does anyone have any recommendations on which vineyards to visit? - either memorable wine or just a memorable place.

We were in Pauillac about three weeks ago and in the region for 16 nights. The best tour guide we encourntered was at Pontet Cadet (Violand - I might have misspelled her name), not far from St. Emillion. She was not a marketer, but gave us a genuine understanding of the area, processes, wine, etc. We booked through the tourist office in Bordeaux, about 30 minutes away from St. Emillion, but St. Emillion has its own tourist office which can book you (what is available depends on the day you are going, crowds, etc.). Our tour was on a Sunday and had only eight people (it included a tasting). Frankly, unless you are really knowledgeable about wines, the tours are quite similar. It is gorgeous there. Bring an extra gig chip for your camera.

Just got back last night ...had an absolutely wonderful experience at Chateau Roziers.. we had their wine for lunch at Le Tertre in St Emilion ( excellent food ) then tried to buy a few bottles no luck at any of the merchants so we drove to the winery..they had just started picking that day..grapes and workers everywhere but the wine maker, Madame Saby, insisted we come in, sampled 4 wines.. she was so passonate about the winemaking and a delightful person. We have been to wineries on 3 continents and this was one of our best ever visits. You can find their location on the large interactive map in the tourist info office in St Emilion.
