Travelling from Le Havre to St Michelle November 8 07and need to know the best way to go. Not having any luck with public transportation or information. Should we rent a car?? Want to tour Mt. St Michelle and see Bayeux Tapestry.

Renting a car and driving is certainly an option. Navigating Normandy roads is easy and stress-free. The freeway from the Bayeux area to Mont St. Michel is a delight.
Bayeux is a lovely town to stay in. Aim for accomodations within easy walking distance of the cathedral and tapestry to be assured you are in the most picturesque part of town.

I%26#39;m actually going to MSM next week using the train and local bus. I%26#39;m staying in Bayeux for three nights and as far as I can tell from the train schedule at SNCF is that there%26#39;s a train from Bayeux that arrives in Pontorson (the closest train station to MSM) at 9:30am and there are buses that take you from the station to MSM. I have to get the train back to Bayeux around 5:15pm. The train ride is about 2 hours (sorry I don%26#39;t have the exact times with me). So if you don%26#39;t mind staying for the whole day, that%26#39;s one way to go but you certainly will have more flexibility with a car. I%26#39;m solo travelling it this time so I%26#39;m trying the trains out.

We made that trip last year and driving to Mt Saint Michele from Bayeux was enjoyable and easy. A car gives you more options and allows you co see Mt Saint Michele in the morning or evenings thus avoiding the bus crowds, although in Nov. it may not be the issue it is durning the summer.
