alternate strike transportation

It sounds like there may be a rail strike while were in Paris. If the RER is on strike what are the alternatives to getting to Versailles and back to central Paris?

There are the SNCF / TER trains from PARIS-Gare Montparnasse to VERSAILLES-Chantier and from PARIS-Gare Saint Lazare to VERSAILLES-Rive Droite. There is also public bus service--#171 Pont de Sèvres (Metro) to Chateau de Verssailles.

I%26#39;m afraid that if the RER is on strike, it also means that SNCF will be on strike (same groupe, it%26#39;s the RATP -metro- that is a different company but they probably will be on strike although it%26#39;s not automatic.

When are you planning to arrive?

Until the action actually occurs...there%26#39;s no tellin%26#39; which portions, of which systems or which lignes---SNCF/TER...RER...RATP Metro, Bus %26amp; Trams---will be effected. As an example, there are two(2) RER %26#39;C%26#39; lignes which service VERSAILLES--the %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne to VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche and the %26#39;C-7 ligne to VERSAILLES-Chantiers. It%26#39;s possible that one ligne may be effected, while the other runs on a delayed schedule. An entire, system-wide shutdown is unlikely...if for no other reason...demonstrators and protestors need to get to and from the demonstrations and protests...or it won%26#39;t be much fun.

There is a strike planned on 18 October. There should be a minimum service but it%26#39;s anyone%26#39;s guess what this could be. Just try to avoid travelling on this day if you can %26amp; go to Versailles before or after.

Does anyone know if Eurostar services will be affected?

From previous experience of one-day strikes, does anyone know if there are likely to be any effects on the following day, caused by rolling stock (or drivers!) out of position?

Even during the worst of general strikes...it%26#39;s rare that drivers simply stop their trains on the tracks and walk away from them....if for no other reason than train personnel usually live near their terminals and need to get home themselves....and prefer to ride rather than walk. Is it possible that there may be some delays on the day after a labour action ??...it%26#39;s certainly POSSIBLE (a train being derailed by a mad cow is also a possibility)...but this possibility will depend entirely on the lignes effected by the action...and the specific circumstances of the social / labour action. But in the past...the overwhelming majority of trains, on the overwhelming majority of lignes, run normally the following day.
