We are going to Antibes next week. We%26#39;ve never been before. Can anyone tell me how people dress there? We%26#39;re not planning on going to any fancy restaurants. We wondered in jeans are acceptable or do people dress up during the day? Also, is the weather generally warm in October? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give us.

I%26#39;d say that jeans are fine and the temperature should be low to mid twenties Celsius, ie pleasantly warm for October:

Have a good trip. Antibes is a nice town, with a good sandy beach.

Hi and thank you very much for the information. I hope it stays warm and sunny. I%26#39;m glad the dress is casual.

It was 60F in Villefranche at 8.00 this morning. Weather seems to be settling down again after the thunderstorms. Casual as you like is fine, especially as Antibes has many Brits, who tend to dress more casually than the French or, for that matter, the Americans.

Good Morning
General rule of thumbs in France (at least to dine out), Dressing up is always a plus service wise I have found.

Thank you to everyone who replied here. It was nice to get some useful advice. Since we%26#39;ve never been before and neither of us speaks French, I have been worrying over everything ... what to wear, how to get around, how to communicate. (I know the basics like merci beaucoup and bonjour and s%26#39;il vous plait but not much else.) :-)
From the forums, it sounds like it%26#39;s a beautiful place so now I just hope the weather the week of the 7th is sunny. Oh, I was reading about the boat rides from Nice ... do any of them run in October? The one site I looked at appeared to stop the boats in September.
Any recommendations are appreciated. This is a %26#39;girl%26#39; vacation and we won%26#39;t have a car so we%26#39;ll be depending on public transportation.
Merci!

I think that you are worrying a bit too much - you%26#39;ll be en vacances (on vacation) so lighten up! As the Cote d%26#39;Azur gets an international mix of tourists then you%26#39;ll find that in Antibes as in Cannes, Nice and the other resorts, English is widely understood.
As has been posted elsewhere, it%26#39;s courteous to speak the basics of French, %26#39;bonjour%26#39; and so on; also the rail services along the coast are very good so those other places are within easy reach.
The weather there is looking good this week so I hope it holds for you. Although the air temperature will be cooler than midsummer and can get chilly in the evenings, you should find that the sea temperature should not have cooled that much yet. The beaches will obviously be less busy than summer, but shouldn%26#39;t be deserted.
To get back to the subject of clothing - or the lack of it - you%26#39;ll find that, if its warm, you shouldn%26#39;t need to worry too much about beach attire, going topless is pretty much the norm down there :)
