My husband and I are thinking of spending a week in Paris over the new year period. Any suggestions as to the best way to spend those 5 days? We have been to Paris previously but for 2 days only and part of a tour group. Also, do think it would be easy to get from Paris to Scotland for maybe another few days? We can only be away for 2 weeks....thankyou.

For what to do in Paris, start with the %26quot;Attractions%26quot; tab at the top of this page to get an idea. Also search the forums and you will find lots of earlier responses to exactly the same question.
Once you have a rough schedule, post it here to get comments about the timing and relative priority. You need to give us some idea what do you like doing - museums, art, eating, shopping, sightseeing, river cruise, do you want to go to Versailles? - and then ask specific questions about those aspects you are unsure of.
You can get to Scotland easily, although it will take a day:
1) Fly direct CDG to Edinburgh, for instance (2 hours flying + all the trimmings)
2) Eurostar from Gare du Nord to London (3 hours). London to Edinburgh (5 hours). The new Eurostar terminal will make this connection easier.
What will you do for a week in Scotland in January, unless you like rugged outdoor activities - like skiing, hill walking, snow golf? Don%26#39;t forget there are only 7 hours of daylight and the weather is generally worse than further south. Why not do option 2 and break your journey in London, or consider other parts of Europe where the weather is better and there is more daylight (Spain/Italy)?
