Sorry for another dress code question but at currently traveling and planning to send some clothes home and repack for Paris. I have bought a dressy long skirt (dusky amethyst, fine pleats) and was wondering if I should bring it for evenings out? At home many women wear long skirts with high heels and so I was wondering if Parisian women wear them.I have the usual phobia of not wanting to look like an idiot, but enjoying dressing up a little (would wear a basic long sleeved top or cami depending on weather)

I think that would look great and fit right in - especially if combined with a large shawl/scarf as your wrap.

Hi there%26#39;
Just got back from Paris. Stayed at a very upscale Hotel. I also brought two dressy long outfits and did not wear them. Our concierge recommended non-touristy restaurants and that is where we went. I found that the French women in those restaurants were dressed pretty ordinary but looked great. The right accessories, makeup and and great hairdos. I would say that wear what you feel comfortable in, long or short!!!!!

I totally agree with fruff. I think you simply won%26#39;t have the occasion to wear a dressy long skirt. No one does in restaurants or even at the Opera; only for very formal occasions that for sure are not going to happen as a tourist in Paris.

Unless you are planning to eat in a very posh place, you%26#39;ll be overdressed with a dressy long skirt and high heels.

If you want to fit in in Paris, take very -taylored trousers, made from high quality natural fabrics, in the dark neutrals, black, blue or brown, and very well made; good leather mid -height or flat shoes or boots, well- taylored white cotton shirts, and an excellent jacket - good tayloring and great quality natural fabric (read wool). Additionally, you%26#39;ll need a fabulous hair cut.
Beyond that if you can copy the parisienne%26#39;s walk and way of paying absolute attention to the person who is speaking at any moment, you%26#39;ll do quite well.
As far as the haircut goes, I try always to get one in Paris. My philosophy is that since you almost never see a woman in Paris with a less than excellent haircut, you should be able to get a good cut almost anywhere - and that has turned out to be a fact.
The best thing about having your haircut there is telling a hairdresser at home that%26#39;s where your hair was last cut. It%26#39;s worth the air fare for the look that information prompts.

Hi Coolumlady, I agree that, as a tourist, you are unlikely to go anywhere in Paris where you would feel you %26quot;fit in%26quot; wearing a long skirt. I think you should send it home.

Thanks everyone, the skirt is going in the send home box... my daughter is a designer and I have a couple of her tops with me, plus I have some chic, tight pants and a 3/4 grey wool fitted jacket.
Here%26#39;s her stuff: www.tulipani.com.au. Paris on Tuesday!! Don%26#39;t know if I will make the TA get t-gether- may actually have a date!
