I am planning to visiting paris this october for the very first time and i really need some help and suggestions! I am planning to do all the tourist stuff during the first week with my friend. and i am going to spend the second week by myself. I am hoping that i could do something that is less touristy. as you can imagine that the tourist stuff may get a little less interesting after first week. I am hoping that i can take some cooking class, pastry class, etc. And i am also contemplating to visit somewhere that is outside of downtown paris to get a more regular parisian experience. Please let me know which location would be a good place for me to stay during the second week and where i would find cooking lessons and such. Or any kind of local events, like local fashion show and such. that would be awesome! Or you can feel free to let me know that my ideas are just too impractical for a visitor?
Thanks!

Have you considered spending your second week in Normandy and/or Brettany? We spent 3 days there last year and wished we had more. It is an easy train trip from Paris. You could stay in the beautiful and interesting cathedral town of Bayeux (or Honfleur), see the D-Day beaches and battle sites, and the American Cemetary. You could also branch out to Mont St. Michelle, Giverny, and enjoy the beautiful coast and countryside.
You%26#39;ll see a different aspect of France and the French, and possibly do it cheaper than a second week in Paris.

I took a cooking class at the Cordon Bleu and had a blast! Go to their website to check out their course schedule. Classes are offered for a single session, or a multiple session. Some courses are taught only in French, whereas others provide an English translator. I had a lot of fun! And plan to go to Paris again to take another class.

Have a look at meetingthefrench.com They have a program where you go to someone%26#39;s home in Paris to meet them over dinner. It sounds like fun.

There is a thread about non-touristy things here...

There have been several threads about cooking classes - try a search (the box under the green bar, at the top of the list of forum topics), using %26quot;cooking class%26quot; as your search term. I think you will find lots of unusual things to do, just based on the suggestions above. And the best thing - just walk around, and enjoy being in Paris!

Everyone in Paris seemed to eat outside in parks, relaxing and reading, or talking in groups. The Tulleries especially, were great for that.
Also, street markets, for browsing, or purchasing the days fresh food were local highlights as well.
Have fun (and a glass of champagne!)
Peace-
