I have a bunch of questions, hopefully I can get some answers quickly... :( Thanks in advance! The following questions are what%26#39;s really making me nervous...
1. Can I purchase metro/bus passes at the airport? (CDG)? If not, where is the most convenient place to purchase this? Also, what is the deal with having to bring photos for passes longer than 5 days? I will be staying for minimum 8 days.
2. Where is the most convenient/ quick place to purchase museum passes?
3. I%26#39;ll be staying at Pavillon Villiers Etoile hotel. Taxi seems to be too expensive, I already got kind of ripped off from the hotwire vacation package...need to save money.... :( So I think I will take a %26quot;roissybus%26quot; to Opera and then take metro to the hotel...
- what exactly is %26quot;roissybus%26quot; and will I be able to find the station easily at the airport?
4. Because I used the %26quot;hotwire%26quot; vacation, I didn%26#39;t realize that my departing plane is 7 A.M. I don%26#39;t know what to do about this... just really worried about this aspect of the travel. Any suggestions (such as staying at the airport the night before, etc.).

Sorry, need to clarify some things - I meant %26quot;returning flight%26quot; is at 7 A.M.

Hi I can only help you with 2 questins.
I was there last week.
I bought my museum pass on the way in the Louvre. Whichever way you go in , head straight for the lobby , where the souvenir shops are and you can%26#39;t miss the tourist info shop. Just get your pass then decide which wing you want to visit and head up showing your pass along the way. Just date it etc on the back.
Don%26#39;t do what I did I went to Musee L%26#39;Orangerie and then queued up only after realising there are two lines, go to the one on the right. Show your pass and you%26#39;ll get straight in.
Any of the main stations will sell you the paris visite pass, but as i was only thre for 3 days I found it worked out cheaper to buy a carte orange for the week. Bring a passport size photo with you for this. .The cashier I went to offered to photocopy my passport and use the photo off that, but the queue was piling up behind me so I told her I%26#39;d get one done in the machine. You can get 2 done for 2 euro.Don%26#39;t keeep it near anything magnetic , phone magnets etc as mine didn%26#39;t work after a couple of days but they%26#39;ll replace it for you no problem if this happens.
Any more queries just ask
Have fun.

Hey there,
1. Yes you can purchase your metro pass at CDG. The easiest way into the city is by using the RER train. There are loads of signs at the airport so you shouldn%26#39;t have any troubles finding the station. When you come out of the arrivals gate at CDG there is an elevator 10metres to your left which will take you to the train station.
From there you can purchase your ticket from the machine (in English) for the RER train. There is a seperate machine for the metro tickets. If you have coins or a credit card with a chip in it (UK/EU). Or if you have cash you can purchase a ticket from the ticket booth (you may have to line up for 10-15mins).
The RER ride is aprox 20-25mins and will take you to the station %26quot;Gare du Nord%26quot;. From there you can access the metro lines.
The ticket machines at the major stations have a selection button for %26quot;English%26quot;...but not *all* of them do.
Edward.

You might also try the Air France bus, which drops you at the Arc de Triomphe and then a cab. The cab ride would be very quick (read: inexpensive) and you wouldn%26#39;t have to schlep your luggage around as much.
|||
this is the first i%26#39;ve heard of this: the air france bus. we%26#39;re flying in nov. on air france...how do we get this to the arcdtr? we are 3 people and it would certainly save some money. is it a deadly slow way to get into town?
|||
The air france bus has only three stops in central Paris, so sometimes metro/RER is truly best option, Depends where you are staying. We just took the RER into St Michel, got out, walked three blocks and arrived at our hotel. If we had bused( besides taking longer) we would have had to take bus in , but then take metro from bus stop to hotel .
Almost any hotel can tell you the best way to get to them Ask or look on their web sites.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;1. Can I purchase metro/bus passes at the airport? (CDG)? If not, where is the most convenient place to purchase this? Also, what is the deal with having to bring photos for passes longer than 5 days? I will be staying for minimum 8 days.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
YES...you may purchase the CARTE ORANGE or any of the various transportation passes at the RER stations within CDG...but this may only be convenient for you ***IF*** you will be using the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne--ROISSYRAIL--traon transfer mode from CDG into central Paris. Otherwise, use ANY convenient RER or Metro station in Paris to purchase your pass after check-in at your hotel upon arrival.
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;2. Where is the most convenient/ quick place to purchase museum passes?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
Depending on your location in Paris, any of the participating museums on the PARIS MUSEUM PASS list...smaller museums will be better and faster. Bear in mind that you may purchase this pass any time and that the consecutive-calendar-day validity %26#39;..clock..%26#39; on the PMP doesn%26#39;t begin running until the first-day-of-use.
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;3. I%26#39;ll be staying at Pavillon Villiers Etoile hotel. Taxi seems to be too expensive, I already got kind of ripped off from the hotwire vacation package...need to save money.... :( So I think I will take a %26quot;roissybus%26quot; to Opera and then take metro to the hotel...- what exactly is %26quot;roissybus%26quot; and will I be able to find the station easily at the airport?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
It would appear that you%26#39;ve done your homework on airport transfers and discovered that the ROISSYBUS from CDG to your hotel--PAVILLON VILLIERS ETOILE (3-star)--6, rue Lebouteux (btwn: rue de Saussure %26amp; rue Claude Pouillet
) 75017, Metro: Villiers %26amp; Rome--http://www.leshotelsdeparis.com/hotel-paris-pavillon-villiers-etoile-19.html?l=EN --is the most %26#39;..direct..%26#39; public transportation transfer mode
Take the ROISSYGUS (8,60€) from it%26#39;s pick-up points outside of your CDG arrival terminal to it%26#39;s terminus near Place de la Opera (at the corner of rue Scribe %26amp; rue Auber) and then cross over to the OPÉRA Metro station and take the #3 Metro ligne (4 stops--heading in the direction of Pont de Levalloise-Bécon) to the VILLIERS station, nearest your hotel....OR...take a Taxi Parisian from the nearby taxi stand) from the ROISSYBUS drop-off point directly to your hotel (approx.7-8€).
If you decide to use the ROISSYBUS / Metro connection, you may purchase a CARTE ORANGE (depending on day-of-the-week) at the OPÉRA Metro station en route

Short of changing your flight, there ain%26#39;t much you can do about it. A 7:00 AM departure time means that ALL of the modes of public transportation (Roissybus, RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne train, Les Cars Air France coach) out to CDG from Paris will be unavailable to you. The earliest 1st departure of the day for any will be at approc 05:30 AM and this is still TOO LATE for you. You need to arrive at CDG for airline check-in and airport security AT LEAST two(2) hours (3 hours would be safer) prior to your flights departure...and even at that hour of the morning, you need to allow 45 mins out to CDG. With this in mind you have two(2) options available to you....either per-arrange for a pick-up by one of the airport shuttle services...OR...pre-arrange for a pick-up by one of the larger 24/7 radio-dispatched Taxi Parisian operators. You can usually do this through the front desk of your hotel..or on your own.
If you think these %26#39;..lead times..%26#39; for the transsfer airport and check-in process are %26#39;.old woman-ish..%26#39;, bear in mind that...s__tuff happens (and it usually happens when you least expect or need it)...taxi or shuttle pick-up can be delayed or botched, there can be trafffic accident delays, delays at check-in and security at CDG...and (fill-in the blank). So don%26#39;t cut corners.

Here is the Air France bus info for the previous poster who was interested. There are taxi stands at all the drop off locations, btw.

leave a lot of time for the Air France bus return to the airport. got to Gare de Lyon at 9:55am yesterday and the bus didnt show until 10:45!
we waited a long time at CDG for the bus into the city, so clearly my return trip experience wasnt an isolated event! they dont seem too reliable. If I didnt buy so much, I would have done the metro/RER back

***NONE*** of the public transportation modes of airport transfer--RER %26#39;b%26#39; ligne train, ROISSYBUS, Les CARS AIR FRANCE will %26#39;..work..%26#39; for a 7 AM scheduled flight.
The FIRST TRAIN of the day for the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne isn%26#39;t until 05:00 AM and doesn%26#39;t get you to CDG until nearly 6 AM. The earliest that either ROISSYBUS or Les CARS AIR FRANCE buses run is 05:45 AM.
In a pinch, I suppose you could use one of the NOCTILIEN nightbus routes--N120, N121 (from Chatelet), N140 (from Gare de l%26#39;Est) but I%26#39;m not sure that%26#39;s a practical alternative---
