If I am going to paris for a month in january what other cities in europe should i visit? I have an extra three weeks to travel. I would like to see rome but have heard it is a dissapointment. I was also thinking Vienna, Copenhagen and Prague, any opinions or new suggestions with reasons why would be great! I want to see places that are just as beautiful in winter as the rest of the year!
Thanks :)

%26quot;I would like to see rome but have heard it is a dissapointment. Rome %26quot;
Certainly not the Rome I saw - definately worth a visit.
Stating the obvious but it is the European winter and some of the cities I would visit like Prague and Vienna will be cold (which is why Rome is a must as it is further south).
I would try and come up with a route that goes from Paris to London to Prague to Vienna to Budapest, Venice and Rome.
Paris to London is easy on the Eurostar (city centre to city centre) from London you can fly out to Prague on one of the budget airlines it is then an easy train ride between Prague and Vienna - take a boat trip down the Danube to Budapest.
Venice is a must before sea levels rise much more.
Have fun planning

Along with Paris, I would put Brugge, Vienna, Florence and Barcelona on my list. All have good food, buildings, history, culture -and at least 8 hours of daylight.
Apart from being colder, Copenhagen only has 7 hours of daylight in January and you will be eating your breakfast while it is still dark.

Rome,, dissapointing,, gosh , who could say that?? Is this a person you know and trust and have the exact same taste as??? I of course love Paris best, but I would definately not consider Rome a disappointment,, BUT%26lt; there is also a personal taste issue, ,, for instance if a person does not care for history or art, then perhaps Rome could be a less then ideal pick.
You know what would be beautiful,, a Swiss resort,, like Zermatt for instance. Yes, snowy, but the chalets are beautiful,, and you could ski for a day or two, or just walk around the town and enjoy fondue and hot wine drinks,, LOL.
I personally would try Prague or London before I would consider Copenhagen, the weather is one factor( not that it will be great in either of those two places) , but I also would not like to go North in the winter when there is so much less daylight, depressing !
Besides London has the British Royal Museum, which I could live in,, and Prague, which I have not been to , I have heard is like Paris 50 yrs ago..

personally, I would drop Copenhagen - not only will you be eating breakfast in the dark, you will be eating dinner in the dark and it%26#39;s reeeeeeeely expensive, and Prague because you can go to Vienna instead - a great city any time of year.
I agree with the poster who suggested Barcelona because everyone should have a chance to see Gaudi%26#39;s creations, and from there Granada for the Alhambra or Toledo for the El Grecos, or perhaps Madrid for Picasso%26#39;s Guernica. If you have been %26quot;arted%26quot; out, then it might be time for Athens and The Acropolis and Parthenon.
All of this having been saId - there is no reason to skip Rome, and every reason not to. You need to get a guidebook or two and read up on these cities and what they have to offer. That way, you can cnose the places that are most to your taste and you will be taking your trip, rather than ours.

Alex it depends on your tastes. Some cities have a reputation for nightlife others for culture, some are expensive others cheaper. I guess you are coming from Oz so would you prefer to see cold, dark, snowy places as a change or do you need a bit more sunshine to function properly?
Cheaper party towns include Prague, Krakow etc in East Europe and these will also be cold and probably snowy. Ski resorts in Switzerland or France are often a little more expensive but also have a party nightlife scene (the famous Apres Ski). Around the Mediterranean you will find more culture - Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Madrid etc and these will be milder with more chance of sunshine (still not hot though as it%26#39;s winter). You will still be able to find night time entertainment but more laid back as they tend not to guzzle so much beer.
As you have 3 weeks you can probably combine both sorts of places - the low cost airlines such as Easyjet make it possible to see maybe 4 cities with out too huge expense or time spent travelling.
Have a good trip.
