What would I do without this forum?
Next Sunday 9th I%26#39;m going to Paris with my daughter(15). We%26#39;re staying in Maisons-Laffitte campsite which I understand is in zone 5 of the rail system. A 5 day mobilis pass will cost me €46.40.I%26#39;m wondering will it be cheaper to just pay my single fare from MF each day into Paris as I had planned on using a carnet of tickets within Paris as I%26#39;d prefr to walk around and not miss anything. I%26#39;m so confused, Only just found out about the different zones. We%26#39;ll only be there till Thurs.
Would a mobilis pass be cheapr still for my daughter?
My first time ever travelling on my own am really new to all this planning.
Thanks

You could get a 5 zone carte orange for about 31 euros. Whilst you will walk a lot, it%26#39;s WONDERFUL to see the metro signs when your feet are sore.....and having the carte will make it easier..
Not sure if there%26#39;s a cheaper version for your daughter - maybe someone else can help with this..

Will the 5 zone pass take me between Disneyland and Paris? I%26#39;m familiar with the mobilis pass as it%26#39;s been posted here that a %26lt; day %26gt; pass is 12.5 euros; and includes the subway system.
If I do this for 3 days, that%26#39;s 37.5 euros.
Are you saying that the 5 day pass as described above is cheaper?

yes, the carte orange is cheaper than the mobilis. My understanding is that the mobilis is what is %26#39;sold%26#39; to tourists and that the residents buy a carte orange. There%26#39;s much discussion about this on the foum, if you do a search...you will need a passport-sized photo to go in the little wallet (they make great souveniers)and make sure you keep/retreive the ticket from the machines etc..
Yes, the carte orange will take you to Disneyland, Versaille and, I think, the airport...
I%26#39;m surprised at the cost of the daypass you mentioned...a daypass direct from the metro used to be about 5 or 6 euros, 2 years ago..

Just an update.
We took the train in from Paris/Disney to downtown Paris on 2 days.
The cost of 12.5 euros included roundtrip, or return as some say, and free bus and Metro rides! I thought it was a good deal.
FYI, when you enter the RER station, there are television monitors telling you when the next train to your stop will arrive. So, besides the 4 letter code on the train, all you have to do is look at the monitor.
The trains are not marked like they are in NY. If a train is in the station, you better make sure you%26#39;re on the right one!

MAISONS LAFITTE Campgrounds--
http://www.campint.com/
If this is the campground you%26#39;ve booked...served by the MAISONS-LAFFITTE station of the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne...MAISONS-LAFFITTE station is located within Transportation Zone 4.
The CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-5 weekly (valid from First Train Monday AM until Last Train Sunday PM, is valid for travel between PARIS and Versailles (Zone 4) DisneyLand Paris (Zone 5) and CDG (zone 5). In as much as the CO is a Monday to Sunday pass...it won%26#39;t do you any good arriving at CDG on a Sunday. If you plan to use the RER train connection out to here upon arrival...you will need to purchase a separate RER ticket....fro RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne to CHATELET-LES HALLES station (34-38 mins) and then a quick train change to the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne out to MAISONS-LAFFITTE ( 21 mins...%26#39;..U xxx..%26#39; trains heading in the direction of Cergy Le Haut or %26#39;..T xxx..%26#39; trains heading in the direction of Poissy) The RER fare will ruin approx 11-12 €..estimated train travel time 70-75 mins)
Your alternative is #2 Les Cars Air France Coach to ÉTOILE-Arc de TRIOMPHE...then down into the CHARLES deGAULLE-ÉTOILE RER station to catch the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne out to MAISONS-LAFFITTE. The one-way, RER fare between Paris and MAISONS-LAFFITTE station is 3,50€
I%26#39;m not sure where you got your information...but there the MOBILIS pass is ONLY a one-calendar-day transportation pass and not sold in multi-day validities. I suspect that the transportation pass you%26#39;re thinking of is the multi-consecutive-day PARIS VISITE pass...and as a general rule...not nearly as good a deal as the CARTE ORANGE or individual one-day MOBILIS passes as necessary. (MOBILIS passes specifically EXCLUDE travel between Paris and either CDG or ORLY)
Do your own math---

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;My understanding is that the mobilis is what is %26#39;sold%26#39; to tourists and that the residents buy a carte orange.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
BOTH the weekly and monthly CARTE ORANGE and one-day MOBILIS passes were originally %26quot;..intended..%26quot; for local residents...but they have always been available to casual visitors and tourists as well. The problem that arose between %26#39;..intention..%26#39; and prcatice was that there was never any practicable method of testing %26#39;..residency..%26#39;....so the %26#39;..tourist loophole..%26#39; had always existed. This %26#39;..tourist loophole..%26#39; will narrow substantially, when the %26#39;..old format..%26#39; (separate photo-ID card %26amp; magnetic-strip-read coupon/ticket) are finally phased out, in favour of the NAVIGO pass, digital system....which requires an I;e de France mailing address. But even then...some portion of the %26#39;..tourist loophole..%26#39; will continue to exist with the introduction of the new NAVIGO %26#39;..Découvert..%26#39; pass, which will cost 5€ (one-time issue fee) for the re-useable and re-loadable digital pass (valid for re-use for 10 years.
The transportation pass that you%26#39;re tinking of that was created and marketed internationally, primarily as a %26#39;..tourist..%26#39; product is the PARIS VISITE pass. It is expected that this too will also be phased out over time (indefinite at present)...and most likely replaced by a digital-read pass product.
