%26quot;Food products
Solid food products, such as chocolate, sandwich, fruits, vegetables are permitted in your baggage. All liquid food such as yogurts, pudding and jam are submitted to the restriction of 100 ml (3.4 oz) container and fit in your 1L plastic bag. If you plan to bring any kitchen utensils with your food products, please ensure to pack your knife in checked baggage. If you are travelling outside the country, you should check with your airline or Canada Border Services Agency%26#39;s website regarding bringing foreign products into Canada, as some restrictions may apply.%26quot;
This is from the Canadian Air Transport Authority Website.
PS: If you are taking Air Canada: My condolences. But at least you can get Clamato, unlike american companies.

One solution is to purchase food for the plane after you are in the secure area. I have not flown internationally out of Canada in several years, but it should work the same as in the US - so you can buy a sandwich or fruit or whatever, and not worry about packing it from home.

I made sandwiches at home and packed them with icepacks. The icepacks were confiscated at security. But the sandwiches were fine for a couple of hours until we ate them. We always bring food on the plane with us and never have any problems. Granola, sandwiches, raisins, nuts, my teenage friend even packed a little container of cold spaghetti. With a little imagination you won%26#39;t starve. And you can get water on the plane.

Here to confirm the fears: food even in first class is not better than food in economy ten years ago. Sometimes hectic connection procedures defeat our attempts to load up our stomachs at the airport.

A coworker actually had peanut butter confiscated recently!
watch out for potential security hassles about the number of items you%26#39;re carrying too! I%26#39;ve had LaGuardia ones state that the bag of food you bring (for a 6 hour domestic flight where you dont even get peanuts) counts as your personal bag! On Jet Blue, they specify carryon luggage as 1 carry on, 1 personal item, and 1 bag of food, but that%26#39;s the only time I%26#39;ve seen this specified.

evening - this sort of issue is one reason that my %26quot;travel purse%26quot; always is quite large - I can cram something into it for the time it takes to board, and not have to have that discussion with some tightly wound gate agent who decides to play hall monitor . . . .
|||
well seems as if we won%26#39;t worry too much about sandwiches, bagels etc. some very funny responses (if it wasn%26#39;t such a sad state of affairs -better keep our eyes open for that peanut butter attack!!!!).

my personal item is unfortunately always packed to the gills with electronics! and, admittedly some trail mix/granola bars in case I sit on the tarmac for 10 hours.
I went to Paris with a rollaboard and a daypack, and came back with those bags, and 2 more! one just for the chocolate and caramels of beurre sale!
If only I had known they were going to just let me cruise through customs at Newark as usual - I would have had kilos of giroles, cepes and those head-sized artichokes! and the mini artichokes.... Just kidding, of course...

don%26#39;t know who you%26#39;re flying, but in 15 years of transatlantic travel I%26#39;ve never found anything that was completely inedible. Pack a few granola bars/raisins/etc, and don%26#39;t stress it. You%26#39;ll not go hungry, and you%26#39;ll have plenty of chances to get something to eat at the airport once you arrive.
If you just can%26#39;t bear that idea, buy something after you go through security.

This thread reminds me of a recent incident... When we arrived in Cozumel this July for a dive trip we rode in a hotel taxi bus with the group The Drifters who were on their way to board a cruise ship to do a show. We got laughing so hard I wanted to just keep going with them!
One fella was lamenting that they took his sandwich at airport security in NY - actually opened it and looked between the bread and asked him what kind of meat it was - he said %26quot;How do I know? It%26#39;s baloney!%26quot;
And another fella said that he had a small snow globe that he was bringing home to his daughter and they tried to take it - said it was liquid over the 3 ounces. He said, %26quot;It%26#39;s a snow globe! Just what did they think I was going to do, say %26#39;Everybody, stand back I got a snow globe and I know how to use it - don%26#39;t make me shake it up!%26quot;
