My boyfriend and I are due to go on our year abroad for university at the end of september, him to Klagenfurt, Austria and me to Millau, France. Obviously the time apart is going to be hard on both of us and for that reason we%26#39;d like to find a relatively cheap and easy way to get to another. Neither of us drives a car so we%26#39;d be relying on public transport (buses, planes and trains). We were hoping to meet up at the end of October as I have time off work then.
I%26#39;ve looked at Ryanair flights going via London from both Montpellier and Rodez but they both seem to require a night spent in an aiport.
Does anyone know of a more direct route with other airlines or other forms of transport that don%26#39;t cost the earth? Please help!!!

Millau does have a station with one through train a day to Paris ( there also used to be an overnight one as locals will tell you). It may be worth looking at this and checking if there are any possible connections via Paris or Clermont Ferrand or a way of meeting somewhere half-way.Bear in mind that now that the TGV Est has started that cities such as Stuttgart can be reached very quickly from Paris.. You may be eligible for student fares. The other local trains incidentally are not very reliable as SNCF seems hell bent on closing this line (a very attractive run, incidentally)There is also a a connection southwards via Bezieres, but last time we attempted this route the train was cancelled not due to%26#39; leaves on the line%26#39; or the %26#39;wrong kind of snow%26#39; but because the driver had %26#39;family problems%26#39; !!
Good luck
