Charles de Gaulle to Amboise by train

Hi I%26#39;ll be flying from Seattle to France in a couple of weeks. The first holiday on my own(the family is staying at home) and I have read that you can take the train from the air port to the St Pierre de Corp TGV station near amboise. Is this correct and does any one know if I have to book a seat. If so how far in advance and how do I book a ticket( best place to call). .Thanks for your help, Iain.

Hi scotsishi

It is possible, but it will require a number of changes,

And yes, booking in advance is recommended.

There are about a half dozen direct TGVs (high speed trains) daily from CDG to St Pierre des Corps. Travel time is about 1hr45m. From St P des C there are fairly frequent trains to Amboise taking about 15 minutes to make the trip.

The SNCF (French rail) site will give you full timetables. When looking for trains from CDG use Roissy as your departure station, that bing SNCF shorthand for the CDG TGV station.

If none of the direct TGVs is at a convenient time for you you will have to transfer from CDG to the Montparnasse station in Paris to take a TGV to Tours or St. P des C and then change to a train to Amboise. There are also direct non-TGV trains from Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz in Paris to Amboise. The SNCF timetable should show both if you just search for timetables from Paris to Amboise.

To be on the safe side I would allow at least 2 hours between the time your flight arrives at CDG and the departure time from the CDG TGV station. If you need to travel into Paris add at least another hour. This %26quot;how to%26quot; guide by MorganB will guide you through the somewhat tricky SNCF ticket-booking process: http://tinyurl.com/qpdef

Note that the correct spelling of the TGV station near Tours is St. Pierre des Corps. The SNCF site likes correct spelling! :-)

Good luck!

Thanks so much for you help. It is a real plus to have your confident input. I have booked a ticket. Thanks again. Scotsishi

Just curious, is it sheer folly not to purchase train tickets for this trip in advance? What are the consequences?

Alternatively, what about the train from Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz to Amboise? Folly not to buy in advance (can%26#39;t seem to get a %26quot;reserved%26quot; seat on this train online anyway). Thanks!

I%26#39;m in a similar situation in that I arrive in Paris in early morning and there are no TGV trains I can get for 3-4 hours after we land. My options are to take a train to Paris and then take TGV to Tours or just get my rental car at the airport (instead of Tours) and drive 2-3 hours. Does anyone have an opinion on which to do? Is getting from CDG to Paris trainstation a hassle or relatively easy?
