Which Arrondissement is Best?

I%26#39;m thinking of visiting Paris for a month or so in January and wanted to rent an apartment. But, I don%26#39;t know which arrondissement is best? I have been to France before but only got to visit Paris for 3 full days( meaning I have done most of the major tourist things). Somewhere with adequate transport would be ok if inner districts are too expensive. I can speak enough French to get by also, so finding palces shouldnt be too hard! Which arrondissement is best value, I need somewhere safe and at least a little lively. I want to become a parisian for a little while (but also a tourist sometimes)! Please give advantages and disadvantages!

Thanks so much

Looking at less than 900Euros a month or 200 euros a week, I know it may be hard to find something, but i am a student on a budget!

Hey!

Renting a room or an apartment can be a beast of a mission but it doesn%26#39;t have to be. I%26#39;ve seen rooms available from 350euros per month up (all depending on location and standard).

So many parts of Paris are beautiful in there own little way, it just depends what pushes your button really. Places in the 5th and 6th are going to be more expensive than somewhere in the 19th for example.

The general rule from my perspective would be %26quot;central is best%26quot; but you have to weigh up things such as your buget for example.

Some good places to look for an apartment are on Craigslist.com under Paris, short and long term leases and quite a lot of them don%26#39;t require you to jump through the usual %26quot;paper work%26quot; hoops which can be really nasty here. In Australia for example I found it was easier to look for a place to live by area but in Paris it%26#39;s a little more tricky. Usually you find the places first and then decide if you want to live there.

My advise is to check the addresses of the potential apartments on google maps to see what metro stations are near by. Also make sure there is a supermarket (e.g Fran Prix/Mono Prix) nearby.

Hope this helps!

Edward.

I%26#39;ve stayed at this apartment and it has great accomodation, they even stock up the fridge with juice and water. There are two next to each other and we%26#39;ve only stayed at the small one due to our budget. Big one starts 800 euros a week to 1000.; small one starts at 400 euros a week. We provided deposits via Paypal. The apartment is in Bastille area so it is lively and it%26#39;s got many restaurants, bars, plus close to metro. Here are the links:

The small apartment we stayed: http://www.clementine.la/

I%26#39;ve found it%26#39;s always better to stay at an apartment than the hotel, so good for you for making the change!

thank-you for your help! i would love to do this, but it seems if i do it will have to be in june/july, what is the paris summer like? as i have only been in winter when it was snowing! many years ago!

i have heard to stay away from areas in montmarte too? why? also where else should i stay away from, i want to be able to walk back to where im staying and feel safe!

If you want to be centrally located, safe, and in a lively area, choose the 4th, 5th or 6th arrondisement. Get a map of Paris and check locations as you review apartment listings on the internet. Someone mentioned the Bastille area which is the Marais district in the 4th arr. Good choice--lively. I like the Latin Quarter--left bank--(5/6 arr.)

The summer is hot. I was in Paris this past July and August and it was mostly hot with some rainy days. You%26#39;ll need an umbrella and light jacket in summer as the weather is changeable but it is generally hot.

There are loads of websites for renting apts. The ones I like best are www.homeaway.com;www.myhomeinfrance.net;www.VRBO.com;www.justfrance.com.

Good Luck!

Who said %26#39;stay away from Montmartre%26#39;?. I love it there! It %26#39;s lively, with great shops and cafes and if you are near the metro station as I was (Abbesses) there is no problem with transport. We went all over the city from there - 20 paces from our door. Yes, parts of it are touristy, (place du tertre) and Pigalle can be a bit %26#39;seedy%26#39; but all cities have that. Those bits can be avoided. I never felt unsafe. There%26#39;s a nice friendly, local atmosphere and great views.

Hi,

Our family is going Paris at the end of the year for 10 days, so I%26#39;ve been doing some research.

I would say that Montmartre is fine just don%26#39;t go too far north.

It is better, if you find a good deal, to rent around 3,4,5 and 6th arrondisement.

I am renting from the following website

absoluliving.com/Paris/…

After weeks and weeks of looking I found that gay directories have the best and most honest deals.

My family is renting in the Marais which can be pricey but with this website I found the best rate for renting an apartment for 2 weeks.

Good luck!
