We are spending three days in Paris before heading off to Germany to travel through Bavaria. We would like to stop and see Reims for a few hours on the way. I cannot find any trains that will get us from Reims to Heidelberg (our destination) so I was wondering about renting a car. Can you rent one in France and drop it in Germany? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Check the diebahn.de--German National Railways---site for train connections from Reims to Heidelberg...probably vis Metz or Nancy for trains to HEIDELBERG-Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)---

Using the link given by KDKSAIL, you can find, for example:
Paris dep 8.57 - Reims arr 9.42
Reims dep 13.06 - Champagne-Ardenne arr. 13.15
Champagne-Ardenne dep. 13.26 - Strasbourg arr. 15.16
Strasbourg 16.23 - Offenburg 16.52
Offenburg 17.30 - Mannheim 18.22
Mainheim 18.29 - Heidelberg 18.44
It%26#39;s not exactly direct, but it%26#39;s doable. There are other versions with fewer changes, but they took longer.

Hi JoeJim...
We did a similiar drive in January this year. We leased a car in Paris and dropped it off in Rome 3 weeks later. I%26#39;ve just checked the budget.com website and you can pick up a car from many locations in Paris and drop off in Germany. You couldn%26#39;t drop off in Heidelberg but the closest would be Mannheim (about 20km away). I would assume if budget offers this service, the other well known car rental companies will do the same. Be aware though, many rental companies charge a fee for returning a car to a place other than the pick up location and often this fee is quite high if you drop off in another country.
Good luck with your planning!
PS If you do rent, make sure you pickup the day you leave Paris. Parking can be a bit difficult and you don%26#39;t need a car anyway!
