We%26#39;re thinking of spending a week in either of these places over the Christmas period this year - does anyone know if anything is actually open?! We went to Prague a couple of years ago and most things were open, even on Christmas Day. We%26#39;re particularly keen to visit the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao - how easy would it be to get by public transport to Bilbao should we decide to stay in Biarritz? Any suggestions for hotels, places to eat (we%26#39;re both vegetarian...) and tips on what to see in both places would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!

Oh, oh, oh, yes it IS possible to get from Biarritz to Bilbao, but it%26#39;s not a day trip, it%26#39;s a fair old trek. I looked into this once when I was thinking of flying into Bilbao to get to Biarritz. I abandoned the idea quite quickly.
Bilbao is a MUCH bigger place than Biarritz - the two are totally different. Biarritz is really rather small.
As a pesceterian (spelling?) I almost always go self-catering. If you are a proper vegggie and don%26#39;t eat fish as I do, and intend to eat out, you may be in for a tough time in Biarritz. It%26#39;s going to be a lot of pizza and omlettes.

Christmas day in the Basque country is generally quiet as most people are home with their families, but there will be a few places open for lunch. You%26#39;ll have to check the Guggenheim site to see what their schedule is during this time of the year.
Public transportation is available, but it will take about 4 hours to go from Biarritz to Bilbao. Driving takes around 3 hours.
You may want to take a look at Maribel%26#39;s Guide to the Pays Basque and PaĆs Vasco (http://maribelsguides.com). You should find them very useful in planning your stay.
