Car rental

I will be leaving the 9th district on Oct. 5 to go to Amboise. i need to rent a car to get there. Does anyone have recommendations on where to rent? The easiest place to to drive out of Paris?

By far the easiest way to handle this would be to take the TGV to St Pierre des Corps (the %26quot;official%26quot; stop for Tours) and rent a car at the TGV station there, then drive to Amboise (about 10 minutes).

I currently have reservations for this but, was told that you must be able to place your own luggage above you on train and 2 in our party will not be able to do that. There will be several pieces of luggage.

Agree--that%26#39;s a 25 minute train ride from Gare Montparnasse. Rental lot is right next to the station.

St Pierre des Corps is actually 55 minutes by TGV from Montparnasse if it%26#39;s a non stop TGV. Some TGVs stop at Vendome, about 15 minutes before St Pierre des Corps - the stop adds 5 minutes to the total journey time.

I don%26#39;t understand your point about the luggage. It is true that you can not leave luggage in the aisle between the seats (it%26#39;s a safety hazard), but as well as the overhead racks for small to medium sized luggage, there is also a luggage rack for larger suitcases at each end of the carriage. Was that your concern?

|||

Yes, I have read not to put luggage at the back of the car in the train (possible theft isuues)?

|||

I have put suitcases at the end of the carriage several times and never had any problems.

You can pick a car up at EuropCar in the 13 th you can take the metro to Place de Italie and walk across the street twice. You pick up ther car right there and then drive straight up Ave de Choicy and get onto the freeway.

Everyone who takes trains in Europe worries about the luggage the first time or two, but I%26#39;ve never had a problem and don%26#39;t know anyone who has had a problem. I would not put real valuables in luggage left at the end of the car (computer, camera, etc.) because that would be a silly chance to take, but it%26#39;s very unlikely that you would have issues. The racks overhead are quite high (higher than bins over seats on planes), and are suitable for small items but would not hold anything of real size.
