Train Advance Reservations?

Hi! My husband and I are going to be traveling back and forth from Nice to Monte Carlo. We have weighed our options and are planning to use the train.

Is it necessary or advisable to book our train tickets ahead of time? Or could we just buy them the day of?

We used to live in New York and most of the trains around that region did not need advance booking. I was wondering if the same applied here.

Thanks in advance!

The trains between Nice and Monaco do not require advance booking - just turn up and go. However the queues at the ticket desks at Nice Gare Ville can be very long, especially at peak times, so you you would be well advised to buy them in advance of travelling. Nothing worse than missing your train as you are ten to fifteen minutes in a queue

If you buy the tickets on the day, use the ticket machine found to the right of the station when you enter. There may still be a queue but it%26#39;s still faster than the ticket desk. However, turn up about 30 mins beforehand just to be sure.

Alternatively, as was already suggested, but the tickets the day before.

You cannot use the ticket machines unless you have a credit card with a chip. So an American CC won%26#39;t be accepted by the machine. i know, I tried...

Thats right - the Nice blue ticket machines - unlike some others - take only coins or the French Carte Blue only. Round trip to Monaco for two is a lot of coins!

Thanks for the advice! Good to know US credit cards don%26#39;t work in the machines!

I can%26#39;t remember the exact price for Nice Monaco but it is around three euros, so you only need six euros to buy one way tickets for two.
