october strikes

I hear there is to be a train strike in Paris Oct. 17. Are metro trains also involved? Are there any other strikes that month? Many thanks

Just like checking the league standings of your favorite teams on the Sports pages of the newspaper....you can keep up with the latest %26#39;..social actions..%26#39; in Paris at--

KDK - couldn%26#39;t get much from that site. Many of the links on it have not been updated. The main page seems to give a daily note that there are no strikes scheduled for today, but it doesn%26#39;t seem to offer future data.

Yes, there is a strike scheduled for October 17th. The full definition of the strike is still being discussed.

Here is one link:

If you do a search on %26#39; Greve Octobre 17, 2007 %26#39; you will get bunches of data.

Oh my g_d! Is now a good time to panic? I have paid a lot of money for the train Paris Bercy to Venice at 8.30pm on the night of 17 October 2007.

Unfortunately my french language skills are non existent - I have checked your site and can definitely see 17 October in BIG LETTERS - so that doesn%26#39;t look good.

Is it possible for anyone to advise if a) it will definitely go ahead and b) if I should be looking for an alternative way to get to Venice and also what happens to my money if I can%26#39;t use the train - do I get it back?

It%26#39;s ALWAYS a really good idea to have a Plan %26#39;B%26#39; tucked away...just in case s___tuff happens. But I wouldn%26#39;t panic about the effects of this proposed labour action just yet. More times than not, it isn%26#39;t the entire system that is effected (afterall the protestors have to get to and from the scheduled protest...or it isn%26#39;t much fun) and any number of lignes may be no more affected than some minor delays...especially those that involve connections with other national railways.

KDK is right. Don%26#39;t panic yet. Just keep a close eye on the strike data. I%26#39;m sure there will be articles in English on the web. He is also correct in saying that, normally, not all trains are affected.

I will be watching it closely myself as my husband will be traveling a couple of days after.

And yes, you should have a plan B, just in case.

The changes to the retirement system Sarkozy has announced have the potential of causing lots of %26#39; commotion. %26#39;

Thanks for the tips, feel %26quot;slightly%26quot; better and will develop Plan B as suggested.

well you know in France, strikes are very common and espacially on the sncf services and RATP in Paris, they are the champions and it%26#39;s really a shame for the country ....

|||

Just hope I don%26#39;t lose any money on this......

|||

The strike on the 17th has been transferred to the 18th. If you can get a refund on your train ticket do so %26amp; take either Vueling or Ryanair to Venice (probably cheaper than the train).

I have not read where the Oct. 17th strike day has moved. I did read this morning that there is the possibility of a further strike on the 20th October. All this seems to be in the planning stages at this point.

The article I read stated that various groups are attempting to determine several days in October designated as strike days.

We%26#39;ll just have to keep watching the news.
