As promised, a report on the other route around Paris (A3/A86).

In the way down we hit Paris at 18.30, not the best time, especially as we were travelling in torrential rain! Obviously traffic was very busy, but the directions we printed off from via michelin were concise as usual. We headed towards Bobigny %26amp; stayed in Nogent sur Marne for the night. The traffic kept moving, albeit slowly at times, %26amp; we arrived without any problems. We set off at 6am the next morning %26amp; although it was busy, the traffic flowed smoothly.

On our return journey, we did the reverse route coming up past Orleans (A77 - A6/E15) having had a week at a gite in Burgundy. We hit the outskirts of Paris at 8.45am %26amp; crawled up to our turn off to Orly. Once past Orly the traffic flowed smoothly %26amp; the directions were easy to follow. Via michelin had given us directions for the periphique, so we relied on my map reading skills %26amp; the signs. We had no problems at all.

To sum up, this route probably isn%26#39;t much quicker, but the traffic seems to flow smoother than going through Paris on the periphique, therefore it seemed less stressful. We will use this route again as our preference, but make sure we avoid rush hour.

Thanks for the report. I have not gone via Paris for a while. Previously I have always taken the N104, Francilienne, but it goes a long way round.

Hi, JBart,

If you use viamichelin, ask for directions from Calais to Orly. If you ask for directions to further on in the journey it takes you through the periphique.
