OK, we%26#39;ve got a 3 hour layover at Charles de Gaulle Airport on our way to Italy. I loathe the airport (been there before) so I would rather not sit around in the cramped terminal for 3 hrs, plus I have never been outside of the airport and have never been to France other than the airport.
Is there anything I can see outside of the airport during my 3 hour layover?
And I know I%26#39;m thinking about the impossible here, but is there anyway I could do a drive through of, dare I say it, Paris and make it back in time?
I would just hate to sit in the airport for 3 hrs each way and not be able to see any of France.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I%26#39;d be inclined to try the the London TIMES crossword puzzles or accrostics.
Sorry...you just don%26#39;t have the time for Paris, with only a three(3) hour layover at CDG. The best you can hope to do is avoid having your backside permanently re-molded to the shape of airport departure lounge seating.
There are duty-free shops thoughout the bonded / controlled In Transit portions of CDG that you can browse through to kill some time.

Please, don%26#39;t try to leave the airport (or even the secure area). You won%26#39;t have time to get anywhere (you should assume two hours round trip to get into Paris and back, just for transit time including waiting on platforms, etc.), and that doesn%26#39;t include the time spent getting through passport control in order to leave the airport (can take 20 or 30 minutes if several planes land at once) or the time to get through security on the return (can take 30 to 45 minutes if busy) and the time to board (generally starts 30 minutes before scheduled takeoff).
If you do the math, you will I think conclude that your only realistic option is reading, shopping, or getting a snack. If you are a member of an airline club, you can spend the time very comfortably as most of the majors either have a facility there or have a recipropcal agreement with one of the European lines, and the lounges all are in the secure area - you can get a snack free of charge, watch TV, read in comfort, use the computer, etc. For me, it%26#39;s times like this that make the annual charge for the club well worth it!

Just came through CDG last week. It took us 80 minutes to get from one terminal to another. We were traveling with someone with a disability and AF provided a wheelchair and someone to take from one terminal to another We went to the front of all of the lines and it still took 80 minutes with someone who knew where they were going. CDG is the most confusing airport I have ever been in. You won%26#39;t beable to do much with your three hours

Yeah, thats what I thought. I know the lines can be long, so I knew it would be best to stay inside. I mean at this point I would be happy to walk across the street and look at some French road signs. Oh bien, j%26#39;obtiendrai là-bas quelque jour!

Fruff expressed my thoughts on this...I know that changing terminals can be a time-consuming venture on it%26#39;s own.
But I understand your frustration.......so close to Paris and not able to even see a shadow of the Eiffel Tower !!!
Perhaps the next visit.
Person opinion....Paris is my least favourite place in France.It%26#39;s where you get your car and leave and explore greener pastures.Doing exactly that in 7 days !!!!
Enjoy Italy !!

If you have to go landside then find a Paul and gorge yourself on their pastries and a strong coffee. Visit the Relay newspaper shop and look at the newspapers and goodies to at least get a small taste of France! If you are lucky and the wind is blowing in the right direction you might get a view of the city as you take off but really thats all your going to get!

We did get a nice aerial of Paris the last time we flew out of CDG, and we saw the tower. Hope we get as good a view this time!
I%26#39;ll have to check out the pastries!

Mirage -
I%26#39;m sorry to repeat what everyone else has said - but - you don%26#39;t have a hope of going anywhere.
Use the Transit Desk so you don%26#39;t acidentally get outside the secure area. If you have to go through the security inspection at CDG your three hour layove will be at least one hour inadequate.
As a matter of fact, by the time you get to your next flight, your three hours may turn out to be just barely enough time.
Enjoy Italy, and next time don%26#39;t connect through CDG. Your life is just too short for that kind of irritation.

I have a 7 hour layover... Does that leave me time to get to the Louvre see something and get back?
Do I need a Visa to leave the airport?

Out of that seven(7) hours, you%26#39;re going to have to allot AT LEAST 4 1/2--to--5 hours for transfers into Paris and back out to CDG then airline check-in plus airport security check(s) I suppose in the time remaining you could do a %26#39;..Six Minute Louvre..%26#39; if you wore your track shoes,
If you are traveling on a US passport...no Visa are required for entry into France.
