I%26#39;m in the very preliminary stages of planning a trip to Paris for next spring, and I%26#39;m a little surprised at the price of airfare from Los Angeles. Connecting flights are at about the price I was expecting, based on previous trips, but I%26#39;m not finding a non-stop flight for much less tha $1000. It makes me wonder if one or more of the airlines stopped running a non-stop from LAX to CDG, driving the price up. Anyone know what might be going on?
For reference, I%26#39;ve tried a few different combinations of dates both in November (just to see how a 6-8 leadtime should look) and in March, avoiding major holidays and using Friday to Friday flights.
Safe travels!

Just as a comparison, our tickets on AA were about $900, from DFW to CDG (with a layover in Boston).

We fly to Paris from Lax every year and the only airlines that I know of that are non-stop to Paris are Air France and Air Tahiti. I%26#39;m shopping for tickets too for March. I%26#39;m thinking it might be better to fly to LHR and take the tratin over to Paris. That way I can use British Air or AA.

I think you%26#39;d be hardpressed to find a non-stop flight from LAX to CDG for less than $1000. You may want to try using a travel agent for the best airfares.

This may have been true at one time but with the internet giving pricing and booking information to everyone and airlines discontinuing much of the discounts once offered to travel agents, they become less and less of a necessity.
I believe the two best search engines for trans Atlantic flights are:

Here are a host of others:

Non stop flights will always cost more than trips with multiple legs, the cost of convenience. USA Today had an interesting article today about airfares. Though written more precisely about domestic fares, the ever increasing cost of fuel is a major reason air fares are what they are.
Personally, I do not think that approximately $1000 for a round trip, non stop airfare from the west coast of the US to France is all that unreasonable. With the fall of the dollar on international exchange markets, this might be, in reference to the costs in recent years, the best value of your entire trip.

I would wait just a bit before purchasing tickets - mostly likely I wouldn%26#39;t purchase until after the first of the year. While I don%26#39;t think a $1000 for a non-stop flight is unreasonable, I think a better deal can be had if you wait it out just a bit. Both of my trips to Europe has been less than $750 and we%26#39;re usually flying in and out of a different city, next month we fly into Paris on United (but we have a 3 hour layover at Dulles) but we have a direct flight back from Heathrow (London). It might be easier and cheaper to fly directly into London because there are so many flights, but taxes at Heathrow are really pricey, so I would try Gatwick or Luton; however, add in the price for Eurostar, you might be better off with the direct flights from LAX.
We have a friend (we%26#39;re using his apartment) who lives part-time in Paris, so he always takes Air Tahiti Nui; however, the problem with them is that they have only one direct flight out of LAX. Last month, they canceled and he lost 2 days of his vacation waiting for them to reschedule, he eventually got a flight with BA. So, you might want to look into Air France but I%26#39;d inquire how many flights they have out of LAX a day because you don%26#39;t want to get stuck.

This was just a personal observation. On our two most recent trips to Europe, the rates quoted by a travel agent for airfare were considerably cheaper than what I was coming up with from extensive online searching through kayak, expedia, and individual airlines%26#39; official sites.

Hi --
I think that you%26#39;ll find very few reductions in fares unless the price of oil drops well below $50US - it%26#39;s been around and over $60US for a very long time. Fuel is the one item that all the airlines are dependent upon, and as long as the current prices maintain, there will be very few %26quot;cheap fares%26quot;. The cheap fares we all knew and loved mostly go back to the days when oil was around $26/bbl. I think we%26#39;ve got a long cold wait until that price comes back.

I just purchased a non-stop flight for my sister from LAX to Paris nonstop for $670.00 (during the holiday season New Years) It was on I-fly-europe with Delta, however the flight is operated by Air France. So you might want to research your flights that way too. Search engines %26quot; discount flights LAX to Paris%26quot;. You have to be able to start recognizing the times and where the %26quot;major US airlines%26quot; are flying to and then you can cross-reference this information with an actual US airline that might fly direct. (none except Delta) Good luck!

good afternoon
Any wholeseler should have rates to paris below the $ 1000 price range. The seats at that rate are limited. I would advise for any traveller to CDG ( spring and also for the Summer to react now for teh bestb rates ). There is no competition on hthat route ( AF - TN only for the non stop, Hope not to see the last minute $ 1400 air fares as we have seen this year already
