Hello,
We have been to Chateau de Riell Molitig-les-Bains twice before and loved it, but this time (October 07) would like to combine a visit there and start off in Ceret. We would be getting a taxi there from P%26#39;gnan airport - we are both non-drivers. Is this the right way round to do it? Another option might be to get a taxi to the Perpignan train station and then go to Villefranche le Conflent - because one day must manage that yellow train! (it is always strike-hit whenever we have been before). Any recommendations about where to stay there and tips about the train? So, is it going to be two nights in Ceret (good food and wine and scenery wanted) then off to Molitg for husband%26#39;s birthday meal OR shall we give Villefranche and the train a try (again).
Salut (can%26#39;t wait to be in France again!)
Anita

You do not say how long you will be staying and how you are planning to reach Molitg (taxi?)
Molitg is much closer to Villefranche than Ceret so you should indeed start by Céret.
You could get a train from Perpignan to Prades and then take a taxi to Molitg. There are trains at 6.36 am, 7.41 am, 8.48 am, 12.10 pm, 3.05 pm, 5 pm, 6.32 pm, 7.50 pm (the 12.10pm departure involves taking a bus to Ille-sur Têt station then a train to Prades).
From Molitg, you could easily taxi down to Villefranche and take the Yellow train.

Sounds good. Our trip is four nights only. Will probably get bus (have just found out that there is one) from Perpignan Gare (after navette from airport) to Ceret (found a nice looking B+B) then after 2 nights there, get a taxi to Molitg I think. The yellow train excursion might have to wait until a spring visit but will be great to encounter Canigou on that side and get a glimpse of the Med. From there it looks as though a day trip to Banyuls for a snorkel if the weather is good might not be out of the question - I know a good secluded beach. But I reckon staying put in the lovely mountain foothills will be the best bet. Many thanks especially for the times!! AlexandraUB

If you want a glimpse of the Med, go while you are in Céret. via Le Boulou and Argelès, it is less than 20 km.

I have got everything booked now and this advice has been much appreciated and useful. Still got transfers to be organised: Perpignan airport to Ceret and after two nights there, a taxi drive to Molitg-les-Bains from Ceret. Any ideas on whether it is a good plan to try and take the bus from Perpignan Gare (after airport) by bus to Ceret or does it make more sense to take a cab? at what cost though? (bearing in mind we don%26#39;t have loads of time there anyway). The distance from Ceret to Molitg - doesn%26#39;t look too bad but I guess the mountainous nature of the terrain means it is a bit up and down and it could take a while? Anyone done the trip? I know that France%26#39;s restaurants often take Monday nights off. Are we likely to be able to eat in Ceret on Monday night? Recommendations welcome.

Since the airport shuttle will drop you at the station and if there is a bus going to Ceret by the time you get there, why not try to take the bus?
If you miss it, the station is a good place to find taxis !
Perpignan-Ceret = 40 km.
Cost : approx. €50
Should you decide to take a taxi, you can order one by phone :

There are two roads : one is very winding and goes from Ceret to Bouleternerre and Prades via Amélie les Bains et Col du Fourtou. I doubt a taxi will take it. The other way to go is to drive from Ceret to Prades and Molitg via Perignan. It is flat (highway from Le Boulou to Perpignan, excellent road from Perpignan to Prades). It should take approx 1h30.

Many times, I live in the area :-)

Restaurant Del Bisbe is open on Monday. So is Restaurant %26quot;El Tall%26quot;, both belonging to the same people.

I don%26#39;t think I thanked you properly for the information you so kindly provided a couple of months ago. It was very good to have it at the time - and will be putting it to use in just under a weeks%26#39; time! Can%26#39;t wait - hope it is not raining....Any other tips you have thought of in the meantime will be much appreciated - but for now :THANKYOU (and how lovely it must be to live there). Alexandra

Very thoughtful of you, and so rare... :-)
I hope you enjoy your visit in the area. The weather is pretty good right now.
