I will be driving around France for 10 days in October. I am currently scheduled to return my car at Gare du Nord on Sunday, October 28. Is traffic on a Sunday afternoon relatively manageable or will I be stuck in gridlock holding onto my clutch pedal?
Thanks for any advice.

As with most large urban centers, traffic in Paris on Sundays will tend to be light on Sundays...unless there happens to be some special event....and even then, what traffic such an event might create...will be localized.

I think you will have more trouble navigating than with traffic (well I always seem to). Mornings are especially quiet but traffic is a bit heavier in the afternoon as people go in to the city or cross it to visit friends. The peripherique round Paris can be very busy late afternoon/early evening if you are coming from outside Paris using the motorway system. I suggest to be in the city by around 3:00pm to miss this.

it took my husband well over an hour to drive from Montmartre where he had dropped me at our apartment with the luggage to nearby Gare du Nord to return the car on a Saturday mid day -- due to gridlocked traffic -- (he walked back in just a few minutes)
when we took a cab to CDG early on a Sunday morning a week later, it was relatively easy but definitely not deserted -- there was considerable traffic for that hour
my husband is very experienced at driving in Paris -- but sometimes the traffic is difficult -- so at least give yourself plenty of time -- Sunday should be relatively light traffic but it is a bit unpredictable and you can have traffic jams at any time

Thanks for the information. As long as Sunday does not become total gridlock, then I will give it a try.

Unless there%26#39;s some sort of major %26#39;..event..%26#39; in the immediate neighborghood of the location you%26#39;re trying to get to...traffic through Paris on a Sunday should be relatively light...and shouldn%26#39;t present any problems. Perhaps more importantly...you should be able to find a parking space at or near to your destination without much difficulty, once you arrive there.
