Notre Dame, Versailles questions...

Hi, we%26#39;re getting close to our departure date, and have a few questions:

We%26#39;ll be in Paris Oct. 17th - 24th.

Planning on doing Sainte Chapelle, Notre Dame 10.20 (Sat) morning, and Centre Pomp. in the PM. Am I an idiot to try to do Notre Dame on a weekend? The past couple of times I haven%26#39;t really %26#39;toured%26#39; it, just gone for a quick peak, but as it will be DHs first trip, he%26#39;ll probably want to take in the whole thing (maybe even the climb up).

Also, planning on Versailles 10.21 (Sunday)... know there will be crowds as it is a weekend, but wondering if ther leaves will be changing and if Versailles is a good place to catch this? I haven%26#39;t been since %26#39;94, and it was spring.

Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

No, you are not an idiot. Notre Dame and St Chapelle are very doable in one morning. I woulds suggest you go EARLY, by 8:30 or 9am at latest. . The line up for the towers at Notre Dame , ( facing Notre Dame, on your left around side of building) move slowest, as they only let 15-20 people go up at once( narrow winding staircase) , so line up there first.

Then visit the Cathederal, these lines that snake over the square in front of the church often look so long and intiminating, BUT, they move fairly quickly,, it is a church after all, people basically just walk through it.

The line at St Chapelle also looks worse then it is, we were lined up right to the street corner in front of the river and we still only waited maybe 20 minutes, may be a bit more. I t was worth it though!!

There are always crowds at Versailles, but hopefully , with fountain shows over for the winter, you will find it not as bad as a weekend in the summer.

Anyways, why worry so much about crowds and waits, you are seeing sites worth seeing, and of course millions of tourists agree with you,, there are always going to be waits here and there, I enjoy spending my time in lines listening to all the different langauges being spoken and looking at everyones shoes! LOL

Buy your postcards as soon as possible after your arrival and when you know you%26#39;re going to have a line to survive, start writing the postcards. I always take sets of Avery N%26amp;A labels for my cards and deciding which card gets which label takes a little time - as does applying the postage stamps - the perfect chores for standing in line.

BTW - it would seem that bus tours arrive at about 9:30AM everywhere in the world, so I agree with the get there early advice.

Bon voyage.

Our first time in Paris was also in October (my bday month), dates fairly close to yours. I do not recall seeing autumn-like foliage at Versailles. Everything seemed to be green. Unfortunately, because my fiance at the time (now my husband) lost our SD card in our taxi, we don%26#39;t have our pictures from Versailles and I can%26#39;t be quite sure. Definitely do the %26quot;extras%26quot; at Versailles, especially Marie Antoinette%26#39;s little hamlet.

If it%26#39;s your husband%26#39;s first time, definitely climb Notre Dame!
