Just returned last night from our Europe trip, we spent 17 days between Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice and here is what I witnessed as far as fashion. The European women were everything and it isn’t haute couture!
Jeans are very big especially dark colored cigarette legs and worn by almost all ages. Trapeze dresses or long sweaters over leggings very popular, but this really is an age appropriate type of fashion, looks really cute on a twenty/thirty something not so much on a fifty something.
Colors were across the board, I did see black and lots of brown but I also saw lots of punches of color orange, red, pink and chartreuse very popular. I strolled the most exclusive streets and avenues in all these cities and am happy to report that I really didn’t see much of a difference than the way we (Americans) dress and the way European women dress. Most notably was probably the use of accessories, large belts are very popular also layering in a cute way, but jewelry not so much. Makeup mostly very little, nail color none or very light colors, hair not overdone at all.
Moral of the story, stop stressing yourself out over what you will wear/pack, fashion there really is fashion here all you have to do is pick up a fashion magazine and I guarantee you you will see the same stuff there. Wear what makes you comfortable and enjoy!

We%26#39;re planning a trip to Paris in November and I (my husband couldn%26#39;t care less what he wears) was overwhelmed but eventually amused at the concern over what to wear.I was driving myself nuts over boots, heels, slacks, skirts , white sneakers, ball caps (now belts- LOL). Bottom line - we are tourist. We should be comfortable as we explore their beautiful city.
We should be polite, kind and respectful - we should treat others like we would like to be treated. I%26#39;m the ignorant one- i only know 1 language., English. A significant number of people around the world are multi-lingual - I applaud them. So i guess I%26#39;ll struggle with the street signs, the menus, ---but I%26#39;ll be doing it in Paris, how great is that!
I appreciate Riven22 comments and look forward to our trip.

The secret to Parisian chic is quality. The quality of the hair cut, the quality of the leather goods - shoes and belts and jackets - nothing too flash and not nearly as large a wardrobe as the average North American, but every last piece in the wardrobe is top quality, beautifully cut, and expected to last a long time. They remember the old saying %26quot;Quality is the best bargain in the long haul%26quot;.

Oh, and sneakers were worn by all and all age groups. Shock of all shocks even the europeans wore white sneaker, not keds type mind you but they did wear white pumas, sketchers, nikes, guccies etc. Ballet slippers and flats of any kind very popular.
