Buying Champagne

Hi

We will be in the Champagne region in September - we have visited Moet previously and know they had a boutique store where we could buy some Champagne. Can anyone tell me if most of the Houses have stores there where you can buy Champagne from (without having to do a tour) or is there anywhere else you can recommend to buy Champagne from in the region?

Go to Hautvilliars just outside Epernay - on the way in on the right hand side is Gobillard - excellent value for money.

Take care not to drive past it as it looks just like an ordinary house

hi ChC,

Houses Champagne, one of the best is www.ruinart.com

Wine growers lords, try www.champagnedesousa.com

Wine growers, try varnier-fanniere.com

second and third, i know them because i buy some

first i know it because i have received some (expensive)

anyway you can arrange a visit at the 3 adresses, but only by appointement, go to the site and send an email .....

Thanks for all that info - is all very helpful. Do any of you know if all cellars are open for sales only without having to tours?

you can buy champagne from different shops on the square of the cathedral in reims

i%26#39;m quite sure you can buy without a tour. Just send them an email and ask .....

I am sure that most of the Champagne Houses, small producers and Growers will be more than happy to save time by flogging you vast quantities of Champers without having to go through the rigmarole of giving you the tour first!!!!!!

|||

Yes -- the smaller houses in particular will generally have someone to talk to you and try the Champagne without having to do the tours. There may not be stores, but simply someone to help you out.

|||

If you are headed to Reims on a Sunday, will the little shops which sell champagne around the cathedral be open on Sunday? Thank you.

There are a couple I can recommend if you head out to Avize :

This one has great cellars under the village if you do want a visit but they will sell without I am sure.

Great value and can highly recommend the quality.

This is just round the corner in the village and is just a large private house.

She is English and their champagne is highly regarded in England. We have stayed with them and can again recommend.

Worth a phone call before going.

Have a great trip

Is it easy to assemble a case of various champagnes (preferably from small houses or obscure growers) and then ship it back to the US? Are there stores similar to the UPS store in Reims or Epernay or could one ship from the Post Office. Any idea what it would cost?
