Honeymoon HELP!

Somehow I%26#39;m in charge of this too! We would really like to see some wine-ish things while in France, and I wonder if Lyon would be a good place to stay (near Beaujolais)? We%26#39;ll have a car, and are on something of a budget. Any hotel recommendations? Thank you!!!

hi ,to find a place to stay in france that is resonably priced try the Interhome website for france, also if you go to the French Property News (uk based magazine) website they should have lots of rental ads. good luck

Hi RIBigH,

We just returned from staying in Lyon and the Rhone Valley area... We enjoyed Lyon as it wasn%26#39;t full of tourists and folks were very nice - plenty to do there. If you want to explore the surrounding wine regions - you would need a car. Was about a 1/2hr drive to get to wine country from Lyon - in the direction of Vienne.

I do have a hotel recommendation for you - in wine country - Hotel Beau Rivage in Condrieu - this would be perfect for a honeymoon, I kept thinking that when I was there actually. It isn%26#39;t cheap - but is worth the price - make sure you get a room in the MAIN building which has the ones that have balconies overlooking the Rhone.

Wineries aren%26#39;t like they are in Sonoma or Napa, from our experience, you kind of had to know someone to get a tour. We ended up going to the tasting rooms found in small towns nearby instead of the wineries. Also, many of the wineries are only a few acres in size... We went to wine stores/tasting rooms in both Ampuis and Condrieu and enjoyed the experience.

For a Lyon hotel I would look into Grand Hotel Des Terreaux? - if we go back that is prob where we%26#39;ll stay. Was well-reviewed, is in a great location and rooms seem very nice. Where we stayed in Lyon wouldn%26#39;t be an ideal honeymoon hotel - Hotel des Artistes, was just OK.

Hope this helps!

I agree with FICracker, Condrieu is a good base to explore the north %26quot;Côtes du Rhône%26quot; region. The Beaujolais region is also nice, with beautiful villages made of golden stone, but I don%26#39;t like the wine as much as the Côte du Rhône. The Côte du Rhone vineries are also very different from the Rhode Island ones, as there are located on hills above a river valley.

So it depends on your tastes as far as wine is concerned and the kind of landscape you like. If you finally prefer the Beaujolais, there is this nice Chateau there :

And for your stay in Lyon. I have visited the rooms at the Grand Hôtel des Terreaux (to be able to give advices to a TA memeber !), they are really good value for money and ideal for a honeymoon.
