Just back from a very brief visit to Tourrettes-sur-Loup and as NiceLife requested it here is a little report on our trip.
We were pretty delayed arriving in from Bristol, as apparently the baggage computers at Nice had gone earlier in the day. We arrived and were collected and got back up to Tourrette at about 23:30.
Sunday was spent with the in-laws, having a proper French style lunch, taking four hours over it. We had my favourite, aioli with two cloves of garlic per person!
The weather was still pretty warm until it got dark, so we could sit on the terrace for breakfast and the like.
Monday saw me and the hubby head up on foot to the village, Tourrettes itself. We went up the %26quot;back way%26quot;, a path through the rocks heading up the hill and in to the winding maze of little cobbled alleys that make up the village. Sadly, Tom%26#39;s ice cream shop was closed as it was the morning, but we did have a gorgeous ice cold Orangina in Le Cafe du Midi. We spent some time drinking these and people watching, next to the florists. After that we brought fresh garlic from the local green grocer, William%26#39;s. Then it was back down the path and off to lunch.
We drove to the highly eccentric but wonderful L%26#39;Estragon in Le Broc. It is run by Gilbert, whop inherited from his parents. He cooks, waits, wine waits and does a one man comedy show all for €12.50 a menu! He offers to get the wine waiter, goes into the kitchen and reappears saying %26quot;I am the wine waiter, what can I get for you?%26quot; and jokes around through out. He also cooks all the meals, including a amazing cheese souffle, entirely on his own. It is a experience - not only for the wonderful food and Gilbert himself, but for the VERY run down restaurant perched high up on the moutain side - and I would recommend it but he is sadly closing down next month.
L%26#39;Estragon does not comply with EU regulations and will be knocked down and replaced by another restaurant, but it will never be quite the same! I%26#39;d still rather dine at Gilbert%26#39;s crazy establishment than the Michelin starred place down in the valley!!!
The rest of our trip was taken up with a visit to Leclerc before we flew back to the grey or England this morning.
Sorry, this sounds very eccentric as a trip report, but we have been so many times to Nice that we have done all the usual trips before, but I really missed going in to the city this time!

Zoot alors and all that, sounds like you had a great time, what with Gilbert and the lashings of garlic. I can only feel sympathy for your fellow passengers on the flight home - that stuff takes days to get out your system! Marvelous.
Cheers
