My trip to Reims

Great trip, very easy, would highly recommend!

Left out of Paris by train from Gare d%26#39;lest around 7:30 am. Arrived in Reims around 9am. Walked left from Gare to Mumm (approx. 10 min. walk). Great tour!!!!! Make sure and pay 18E for the three glass tasting...well worth it! Need to make a reservation at this House...has an English tour.

Next walked by Louis Roderder. They will not give tours, although very nice. We went in to ask if they had a gift shop.

Then headed toward the center of town to view the Cathedral. Very beautiful...don%26#39;t miss! Had a little lunch and walked down to Veuve Cliquot. Very nice House and neat story about the history. Had a 2pm reservation for an English speaking tour. One block from Veuve is Tattinger. Can walk into that House for a tour...no reservations necessary. This tour was also great! Really cool chalk caves and also a great history lesson! Disappointed in the gift shop, was hoping to get something neat. Veuve had a good gift shop, however they were out of several items.

After a long day of walking(take comfortable shoes, but very doable) we took a cab back to the Gare for a 6:30ish train back to Paris.

Great trip to do on your own! Don%26#39;t need to pay the expensive price of tours. Houses are kind of spead out, so if you don%26#39;t like to walk, have the gift shop call you a cab.

There were several Houses that we did not get to tour, but really enjoyed the three that we did visit! Would highly recommend them all!!!

Great and easy day trip from Paris!!!

Oh, buy your train tickets in Paris a couple of days before you go...they are cheaper over there. No need to buy them from a company in the US and pay extra costs or shipping.

Good luck and cheers!

sooner - this is great, just the info I was looking for!!! I can%26#39;t believe all the wineries are within walking distance of the train station, that is awesome, I had no idea. I don%26#39;t speak very much French, did you find that to be a problem in the wineries at all?

|||

No problem if you don%26#39;t speak a lot of French. Not all of the houses are real close. If you are not up for long walks you can ask someone at the house to call you a cab. We started at Mumm, which was close to the train station. Then walked by the big cathedral in the middle of town and then went to Veuve and Tattengers.

Good luck!

Thank you so much - sounds great!!! :)

This is wonderful information. We are going to be there in just a couple of weeks (late March) and find that all the day-trips from Paris don%26#39;t start until April 1. Any idea if the Reims tours are available this time of year?

Merci.

I would think that they are..... when reading this post again I realized that I%26#39;m now wondering about how far apart (walking) the houses are. I%26#39;m guessing 10-15 minutes? I guess I could map it.........

Is it necessary to book a tour of a cellar and if so where do you book please? i plan to visit on May 5 but do not want to tie myself down.

|||

I think you can just do it through the winery%26#39;s website.

Do NOT just %26quot;walk by%26quot; the cathedral. It is one of the finest in France and well worth an hour of your time. You can drink champagne anywhere after all, especially the products of the big houses. IIRC there aren%26#39;t too many medieval Gothic cathedrals outside western Europe, and none in N. America the last time I checked...

Thanks so much for the info. Leaving May 11 for 2 weeks Paris and Normandy. Definite day trip to Champagne region.

Wow, Thanks for the great info. I%26#39;m going to Paris in November and wanted to do a day trip to Reims and was going to do a bus tour. This sounds very doable on my own! Thanks again, Ed
