Apartment in Paris

Hello, We are looking for an apartment in central Paris for 1 week in June 2008. Any ideas? Nice modern aprtment close to the main areas. A lttle balcony would be nice. Any thoughts would be great. rsa

If you do a search of the forum, you will find many threads with web sites for apartment agencies, as well as lots of recommendations for specific apartments. That might be a good start, so you don%26#39;t miss things because people did not happen to see this post.

For specific responses to your question, you would need to give some idea of your budget as there are apartments in all price ranges.

Hi, we are just getting ready to head to Paris for a month (Oct.). We searched many sites -- there are thousands of apartments.

Though we haven%26#39;t stayed in the apartment yet, we found the following website to be useful www.feelslikehomeinparis.com -- they have several apartments that would meet your budget guidelines, and they accept credit card payments through PayPal. When we started looking and booking back in April, that last bit was very important to me.

I still prefer it to sending bank transfers, but now, having successfully rented flats in a couple of different places (most recently Quebec, Canada) and sending checks out of the U.S., I might be more comfortable with a direct rental. Sites like Lodgis and VRBO are useful, as are numerous others. If you don%26#39;t want to troll the boards on TripAdvisor, try doing a web search for %26quot;vacation apartment Paris%26quot; or similar wording.

rsa, you can easily stay in a studio for under your budget. You%26#39;re going in high season, so you may not get a one BR, altho you may get lucky there too. Check out vacationinparis.com. I%26#39;ve used them several times with great success. And recently someone on this board recommended an incredibly inexpensive listing of apartments...of course I can%26#39;t find it now. Maybe he%26#39;ll see this and chime in.

paris restaurants

i am off to paris for a romantic weekend with my girlfriend at the end of October, we are staying at the Hotel de banville, i would like to compliment this trip with a really nice meal, that serves good food, with a nice atmosphere, that is also not a million miles from our hotel, i have a budget of 300 euros for the whole meal cananyone reccomend anywhere.

You are out in the 17th arr., which isn%26#39;t particularly dense with restaurants. I would ask the hotel, then walk over and take a look.

If you pick a place further away, have then call you a cab.

Thank you both for your advice, i think we are going to go to either laperouse or 1728 have checked out there menu%26#39;s etc and they both look good, can%26#39;t wait.

You will probably have to take the metro/taxi as advised. However, I had a fantastic meal at an authentic French brasserie in rue Dennis-Poisson, located also in the 17e (sidestreet of Avenue de la Grand Armee leading to les Etoiles). It%26#39;s called Chez Cedric (+33 144090330). They have all the classic dishes, nice interior, good service and owner is in the restaurant (yes he is called Cedric). I remember their specialty for dessert being souffle de mandarin. If you don%26#39;t mind the walk you could go on food and finish the evening with a romantic walk to les Etoiles/Champs Elysees before grabbing a cab back to the hotel.

Have today returned from a fabulous 8 days based in Nice. Used the local buses every day. 1.3 euros per journey - long (eg. Nice to Menton) or short (eg. just one stop). You can get a daily ticket for 4 euros, - fantastic value for money. The Nice bus station (Gare Routiere) is a nasty building but very helpful enquiry staff will give you assistance and timetables. Recommend trips to Vence, St Paul de Vence, Monaco, Menton, and Villefranche

HI Yamdracir, Glad you had a lovely time in Nice. I am off there myself next week and am hoping to pick your brains. I am planning on visiting Cannes %26amp; Monaco by train, this might sound stupid but how do you where your stop is? Do they announce the stops before hand and if so are they called Cannes %26amp; Monaco (are they the same in French as in English)

There are two very different types of train on this route, very old and very new. The new ones have a PA system on which they usually but not always make announcements. The old ones don%26#39;t and you just need to look out for the station name. (Or if they do, the train is so noisy it can%26#39;t usually be heard)

Cannes is pronounced Can and Monaco Monaco.

Pick up timetable No.4 at Nice station and you will be able to check off each station as you go. (Although the timetable itself is immensely confusing)

The trains, by the way, are regularly on strike. If this happens you can use buses, which are cheaper and run more often but are slower.

Am I blind? RATP website - no prices?

I must be blind! I%26#39;ve been looking on the RATP website for a while now and cannot find prices for individual tickets to places like CDG and Versailles. All I can find is the prices for one t-ticket and a carnet of t-tickets, and the prices for various passes. We%26#39;re only in Paris for a few days, and will buy a carnet, coming in on Eurostar, but need to get to CDG and Versailles via RER (Zones 5 and 4). Any advice on where to go on the site would be wonderful! I%26#39;ve looked at both the French and English versions.

Paris -> Amsterdam -> Rome?

Hello everyone,

For my first visit to mainland Europe, I would like to see these three great cities. I am extending a business trip for this impromptu holiday, so I am required to fly in and out of Paris CDG.

I arrive in Paris on the 21st of October, and I would like to spend 5 nights there. Then I would like to leave for Amsterdam on the Thalys train on the 26th of October and spend three nights in Amsterdam.

That%26#39;s when I start to get a little hazy. How do you think I should try and get to Rome from Amsterdam on the 29th of October such that I can come back to Paris? Booking a flight would seem to be the easiest and quickest option, but looking at websites such as expedia, it appears that trying to create a multi-city itinerary turns out to be hideously expensive!

Two return tickets, one from Amsterdam -%26gt; Rome and the other Rome -%26gt; Paris appears to be much cheaper. Is it ok to book return tickets and not use the return portion? I can just tell the airline can%26#39;t I, and they will cancel it?

Unless someone knows of a website that can manage cheaper multi-city itineraries?

Ok Might have a solution for you. There are a couple of ways you can do the AMS -Rome. There are no direct budget flights to Rome from Amsterdam but Transavia fly Rotterdam to Rome and Ryanair fly Eindhoven to Rome. Checked out Ryanair on the 29th Oct to Rome and it came out at just over 30 euros all in, flight was at a decent time also. Transavia were around 110 euros so proably take the ryaniar option.

You can get a train to Eindhoven ( www.ns.nl for planner) then a bus/taxi to the airport. Have not been to this airport but friends of mine say its fairly easy.

Just as another option Meridiana fly direct to Florence from AMS Schiphol. From there you can take a train to Rome (maybe you would also like to stay a while in the beautiful city of Florence).

On the return leg Rome-Paris there are more options. Check out www.skyscanner.com as Ryanair, Easyjet %26amp; Veuling all fly this route.

I checked on the 2nd November and got flights for around 50-60 euros. Just watch out which airport they fly to as Veuling are the only ones to fly to paris CDG.

All of these airlines are budget and will accept one way booking without penalty. Just watch the luggage allowance (15kg) on Ryanair, they are very strict about charging you excess luggage.

On your question about buying a return ticket on scheduled airlines then yes you can just ditch the return portion. Scheduled airlines generally overbook their flights anyway so if you don%26#39;t turn up I can%26#39;t see them bothering..

One more thing is that you can fly Paris CDG to AMS on Veuling for 30 euros on the 26th although the flight is at 06:50 in the morning so a bit early.

So if you are careful then you can do the trip for 140 euros including rail fares.

My only problem with using the budget airlines is because I%26#39;m coming off of a fairly lengthy business trip, I have quite a bit of luggage weight. I%26#39;ll try and get it down to 15kg by sending things home but otherwise I might have to go with the major carriers.

Can%26#39;t you find somewhere to store stuff for the duration of your trip then pick it back up on the way. I%26#39;m sure you could use the left luggage facility at CGD. Tht way you could just take what you need with you without having to drag all your luggage around Europe with you.

trip report

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week trip to France. Starting in Paris and ending in Nice.

Paris was wonderful. We saw as many sights and museums as possible. We walked what seemed like miles every day. The people were very friendly, helpful and truly extended themselves for our needs. The food was incredible. The evening Seine river cruise gave such a different view of the city all lit up. The Louvre was probably my favorite, I would have like to spend more time there but had so many other things to see.

We then flew to Nice and met up with my husbands cousin. He works for IBM and has worked and visited Nice for many years. He took us to Monaco, Eze, St. Paul/Vence, Cap Antibes, St. Laurant and Villafranche. I loved Old Town in Nice and all the other small villages.

On our last night there he arranged for a dinner in Haute Cagne at a chateau restaurant Le Cagnard. We have traveled quite a bit over the years but this was probably the most exclusive restaurant I have dined in.

Thanks to all trip advisors over these last few months with all their tips, which we used many times.

Isn%26#39;t is nice to hav relatives there, ( I do also) , you really see another side of life, plus they often take you places you would have nevre gone on your own( plus they don%26#39;t seem to mind doing the driving! LOL)
